To kick off the 2026-27 Rotary year, we had a big surprise - an impromptu “district conference” of sorts! Recent District Governor Emma Bodwell was in the neighborhood and joined us, accompanied by Assistant Governor Pam Gray. In addition, newly inducted District Governor Michele Bois-Gilbody made a surprise visit. Also visiting was Darcy Bastarache of the York Rotary club. 

In keeping with the 4th of July spirit, the team at Jonathan’s provided us a tasty burger-and-fries lunch. 

Not surprisingly, during the happy dollars segment there was frequent mention of the extremely hot weather. Ed Smith took us way down memory lane to the first time a woman applied for membership in the Ogunquit club; she was not admitted! Ed was displeased and made his feelings known at the time. He noted that ironically the attendance at today’s meeting involved more women than men! (I took attendance; there were 11 ladies and 7 gents.) Eric congratulated Eileen as a newly-elected member of the school board. In his CLYNK poem, Pete explained that half of 500 is 250, hence our semiquincentennial celebration! Pam Gray had some fun with us about the matter of the roosters! Eileen is happy about Wimbledon tennis and World Cup soccer. Barbara is happy about the 4th of July. 

Ray had the winning ticket but did not find the Ace of Hearts. 

District Governor Michele Bois-Gilbody presented  a formal induction of Jim as our club president for 2026-27. (see photo below.)

Jim took a few minutes to explain that he learned it is necessary to register our Super September fundraiser with the Maine Gaming Commission. He is sending in the required paperwork and is optimistic that we’ll receive formal approval in ten days or so. Until then, members should hold off on any additional sales of the calendar. 

The board meets on Monday, July 6, at Bangor Bank at 5:00 pm. Members are always welcome.
