The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Thursday, August 18, 2022
Heath shared a meaningful “4 Way Test” moment with us. Susan provided a nice message of gratitude.

Robert Satter, longtime Florida Rotarian, joined us as George’s guest. He was involved in the development of The Forest, the residential community in Wells. Bob served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

Ed Smith was glad the hot weather is gone. George appointed Matt Buttrick to be his successor as hot dog chef at the 2 Cents Sale! Bob Satter thanked George for the invitation. Tracy is over the worst of the plantar fasciitis episode. She’s happy that the vertigo is gone but not happy that employees are leaving. Dr. Joe celebrated his 81st birthday in grand style while in Norway. Elizabeth Ford’s granddaughter is back in college at Brandeis. Richard again said he is “just happy.” Alice celebrated her birthday with family enjoying the Yankees beating the Red Sox at Fenway.

Richard missed out on $15 as he drew the 6 of clubs and the 2 of clubs.

President-elect Alice delivered this month’s Rotary Member Talk. (This replaces what once was a Classification Talk.)  While relatively new as a resident of this area, Alice vacationed here often over the years, and loved it. She shared details of the functioning of the Chamber of Commerce and spoke of earlier employment experiences going back some years to her work in Providence at the Ronald MacDonald House. This led to a “fun fact.” Alice once chauffeured Ronald MacDonald in her car through Providence much to the delight of children in other vehicles!

Alice then prompted others to cite fun facts of their own. Bob Cruickshank remembered mixing it up on the basketball court at the Cambridge YMCA with Bill Russell, John Havlicek and Satch Sanders. Dr. Joe was at Woodstock 50 years ago but did not engage in the now-legendary extracurricular activities! Susan and her daughter graduated from college the same year! Ed Smith’s family had many ties to the Cliff House.

Heath auctioned off two mystery bags raising $115 for the Rotary International Polio Fund.

Tracy reminded us that the Capriccio Kite Festival is Saturday, September 10. Pete has already made a bunch of kites and we’ll make more kites at the board meeting at 5 pm on Thursday, August 25, at the Chamber.

Respectfully,

Ed Seppa
