The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Weekly meeting recap of Thursday, October 21, 2021
President Susan welcomed us with a reminder of the purpose and mission of Rotary. Four visitors joined us: Assistant District Governor Marina Shuliakouskaya of the Kittery Rotary Club, Vickie Russell, Naomme Paris and Dick Cressey.

Folks were happy for various reasons. Ed and Julie Smith enjoyed a Marginal Way walk as well as Barnacle Billy’s famous clam chowder. Richard is just plain happy. Naomme said today’s lunch was the best. Heath, too, was simply happy. This is the last weekend for Big Daddy’s. Brenda enjoyed meeting with Dr. Joe to discuss The Rotary Foundation. She was very impressed by the presentation by Jen of Boots2Roots, the guest speaker at the Biddeford-Saco Rotary club meeting on Wednesday. Dr. Joe was delighted that Vickie was with him; you’ll recall that Vickie received a Paul Harris Fellow award. Some words from Pete:
“Closing in on eight hundred dollars,
Just a few Clynks away.
So keep filling up those big green bags,
And we’ll have a big party someday!”

Richard held the winning ticket but did not cash in when he drew the 8 of hearts and the 9 of diamonds.

As Rotary International is de-emphasizing classifications, Susan came up with the notion of a “Get to Know Your Rotarian” talk. Then she invited our newest member, Brenda Cressey, to tell us about herself. Brenda briefly described her youth and her early working years in Maine. She and husband, Dick, were high school sweethearts and have been married for 53 years. She then told of her introduction to Rotary which was largely inspired by Rotary’s Polio eradication effort. She shared a few special memories, one amusing and the other poignant. Brenda talked of the value of Rotary and asked members to consider taking on leadership roles in the club. Those who were present can tell you that this one very special presentation. We are fortunate that Brenda chose to be a part of our club.
