The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Thursday, September 2, 2021
We had three guests today. Acting Town Manager Matt Buttrick was our speaker. Suzanne Williams of Healthy Rivers Ogunquit gave a brief overview of the Canines for Clean Water project. Dick Cressey accompanied Brenda, our newest member.

Ed Smith noted that David Moore of the Ogunquit Fire Department is recovering from quadruple bypass surgery. Dr. Joe celebrated a very favorable health report with a hot fudge sundae. Bob reported that he, Elizabeth Ford, Pete and Erin participated in the repainting of the US map on the playground of the Wells Elementary School. Tracy asked all to pray for good weather for the Capriccio Kite Festival on Saturday, September 11. Carol drew the 3 of spades and the 2 of hearts to begin building the new card raffle kitty. The Clynk account is up to $690.20. Here’s Pete’s latest…

BYOB he says!
Great! As long as they’re empty and clean,
Just put them in those nice big bags,
Marked CLYNK and are colored green!

According to Susan, we’ll be busy in September. In addition to the kite festival, the beach cleanup is on the 18th and we’ll be starting another food drive. Also, September is Rotary’s Basic Education and Literacy month.

Aspiring to be a New Hampshire state trooper, Matt Buttrick was hired as a summer assistant in the Ogunquit police department and never left! Now the acting town manager, he is proud of his recent work as the emergency management director and on the Covid-19 task force (along with Alice Pearce.)  Emphasizing the dire need for blood donations, Mr. Buttrick called attention to the September 25 American Red Cross blood drive at The Dunaway Center. And, on Saturday, September 11, Perkins Cove will be the site of Ogunquit’s first Plein Air Painting Event.

Dr. Joe Boyle and Suzanne Williams crafted a successful district grant application that is supporting a local initiative, Canines for Clean Water Ogunquit. Suzanne displayed a banner calling attention to the project. She also distributed the one-page description below.

Please keep selling those 2 Cents Sale raffle tickets – just one week remaining! I’ll see you at the kite festival next Saturday.
