The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Friday, January 8, 2021
Asking Susan if I could say a few words, I read the following:

"Two days ago we saw dozens, if not hundreds, of American flags being carried and waved by people bent on disruption and destruction around and in the United States Capital building.

Often, the Pledge of Allegiance is recited with little enthusiasm and without much thought given to what those words say about our flag and our country. As we recite the Pledge of Allegiance today, let’s say those 31 words as if we ourselves had just crafted the message for the very first time. Today, please say it with heartfelt conviction."

Erin started happy/sad dollars with the very sad news of the passing Ruthie, the Bintliff’s server who was so gracious and welcoming to all of us. Asking each of us to contribute what we can to the Rotary Foundation, Dr. Joe informed us that he has just contributed $1,000. Susan’s young granddaughter, who has suffered various symptoms related to Lyme’s Disease, is much improved. Susan, along with her daughter and granddaughter, recently enjoyed a hike up Bauneg Beg Mountain in North Berwick. According to Pete, our Clynk funds now total $416.05.

Regarding club business, Susan, Nancy and Erin will represent our club at the WOCAM Day of Warming on February 6. Public Relations chair, Elizabeth Cutler, took a screenshot of all of us holding phones to our ears. This simulation of the club’s Covid-19 75+ calling-project will be part of a PR story for the Weekly Sentinel, Facebook, and our website. Dr. Joe volunteered to check in monthly by phone with each of us to update our “volunteer hours.” As you know from John Clancy’s email on Friday, he regrets not being able to take on the club’s presidency next year as planned. If another member does not wish to fill that position, Susan has generously offered to stay on for another year. Erin soon will email the January – June dues invoice to each of us. Susan spoke briefly about her keen interest in Rotary's new Area of Focus, the Environment.

Vitaliy Bezrodnov will speak to us about the Rotary Children’s Fund on January 22.

In the words of Dr. Shah, "Please be kind and take care of each other."
