The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Thursday, January 20, 2022
Susan was a tad tardy today, but we had things covered. I unknowingly committed a faux pas in leading the Pledge of Allegiance absent the flag! Heath led the recitation of the Four-Way Test and Richard offered a prayer by way of his phone!

Dr. Joe will contribute $20 to our club as he and Vickie will celebrate their 20thwedding anniversary this weekend at the Samoset resort. Brenda has been busy with her new quilting machine. Tracy recently attended a toy convention and visited Disneyworld as a bonus.

Susan underscored RI President Shekhar Mehta’s urging that we use our professions to do good in the world.

Brenda, Naomme and Erin have the Day of Warming on February 12th very much under control. The Front Porch will donate the meatloaf meal and Erin will make the Valentine’s Day cupcakes! You can sign up to help on Naomme’s Signup Genius site https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f48afaa2ca1fdc07-dayofwarming

Dr. Joe is heading up the planning for our club’s 50th anniversary celebration. Contact him if you wish to take part in the planning. Ed Smith and Pete are contributing meaningful memorabilia.

Heath called attention to the Ogunquit Park and Rec survey on the topic of Agamenticus Park and tonight’s Facility and Space Committee listening session regarding the future of the Dunaway Center and the Ogunquit Village School.

Elizabeth Ford expressed concern about the condition of the beach wheelchairs. Town Manager Matt Buttrick, who was on Zoom with us, said the town will take care of repairs to the chairs. He added that our club could, if interested, help with the purchase of beach mats.

Keith, Matt and Joanie contributed thoughts on upcoming town events. Splash Into Spring, a revision of Patriots Day, will be on April 23. June will feature Pride Weekend, a new event.

Susan, Elizabeth Ford, Pete (and others?) may do a beach cleanup in conjunction with some Canines for Clean Water action in February.

Pete reported $910.85 in Clynk funds and offered the following,

Using big words like ELEE-MOS-YNARY
   Although high sounding and EL-O-CUTION-ARY;
It may help with our Clynk FI-DUCIARY,
   If we are a bit more TIN-TINN-ABU-LATION-ARY

Good news – it’s looks like our February and March meetings will be at the Dunaway Center! Heath is going to arrange for pizza, salad and beverages for February 3. Matt Buttrick will have the room set up so we’ll be in a large circle providing social distancing. We’ll Zoom the meeting onto a TV there. On February 3rd, our speaker will be Emily Rumble; she’ll talk about RYLA.

Stay warm this weekend; it's gonna be chilly!
