The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Meeting recap of Friday, November 1, 2019
Today, we had two visitors – Ray Hamlin’s guest, Gene McSweeney, and District Governor-elect Peggy Belanger of the Kennebunk Portside club.

Right on cue as Ed Smith was preparing to collect happy dollars, George’s phone rang. Bingo, dollar fine! Ed Smith told a very embarrassing tale. First he reminded all that Ed Seppa recently borrowed his skunk trap only to “chicken out” putting a trapped skunk in the trunk of his car. It turns out that while Ed Smith was away on business recently, his wife, Julie, skillfully loaded a trapped skunk in his truck and released it on her own! Melanie and Susan each deposited happy dollars in recognition of the club’s successful Ogunquitfest efforts. Tracy thanked everyone for his or her part in Ogunquitfest and reported revised revenue of $728. Pete cleverly suggested…

“This weekend you’ll have that extra hour,
So sit down, celebrate and devour,
The stuff you always like to drink
And take the empties down to Clynk!”

Oddly, the account gained only a nickel to now stand at $175.75.

Peggy was here to meet with Erin on Interact business; you’ll recall that Erin carries Youth Services duties at the district level. Peggy remarked on how much she enjoys attending our meetings. George paid his fine and then thanked Tracy for her Ogunquitfest efforts. He contributed an item to next year’s 2 Cent Sale and announced he’s giving away 28 bottles of liqueur! Kerry parted with a happy 20! She is headed off to Nashville and it turns out that Peggy is going on the same trip. Dr. Joe was very pleased to receive a nice note from Dr. Nii on the 6th anniversary of the sale of Joe’s dentistry practice. Dr. Joe also told us how thankful he is that medication is effectively addressing a health issue that slowed him down recently. Finally, he jabbed Richard for boosting the cost of the NETI mug that served as Vickie’s birthday gift recently. Gail deposited both happy and sad dollars without details. Elizabeth Cutler willingly parted with a late dollar, a badge dollar, and a simple happy dollar.  Erin requested good vibes as she is headed to NYC with 35 Interactors.  She’s also pleased to have obtained a new storage case for our badges. Ed Seppa was thankful for the sunshine. He also asked the Sox fans in the club to remember their joy in 2004 and to applaud the Nationals for their four “away-game” World Series victory. As usual, Emily paid a badge dollar. Ed Smith will undergo a cataract procedure on Monday.

$97 was on the line when Pete drew the Jack of Hearts and the Queen of Spades. So sad!

The Wells High School Interact students will visit the Wells club on Monday, November 18, at 7:30. Our members are encouraged to attend that meeting to hear from the kids. We sponsor one of them on their New York trip.

The business portion of the meeting was devoted to brainstorming community project ideas. Ultimately, these thoughts will play into a survey to all members.

The next board of directors meeting is Thursday, November 7, at 5:30 at the Chamber of Commerce.
