It was immediately obvious, even via Zoom, that the members who attended in person at the Chamber were ecstatic to see each other after so much time apart. The opening formalities seem to take on even greater meaning than usual.
Three of us were able to be present via Zoom thanks to Erin who attended in-person with a computer. Also on the Zoom were Ali Fitting of Partners Bank, Maggie Cummings of United Way York County, and Deborah LaPointe of the Wells Rotary Club.
Deborah LaPointe invited our club to team with the Wells club on a service project to provide school-supply backpacks to the Wells-Ogunquit school system. Wells is contributing $300 and requests that we do the same. As I understand the plan, the United Way purchases the backpacks and supplies. United Way has been managing backpack projects like this for 12 years. Maggie Cummings also explained a similar, but larger, project by the York Rotary club. As Susan reported in an email after the meeting on Friday, our club approved the $300 contribution to the backpack project.
Erin provided a comprehensive report on the work of the 2 Cents Sale Raffle committee over the past month or so. She then explained the ease of purchasing tickets using a smart phone to capture our QR code, a two-dimensional barcode that appears on our promotional letter and event poster (shown below.) Each of us now has the mission of encouraging friends and family to visit our Facebook page or our website to purchase raffle tickets or to simply donate to the fundraiser. Members have the option of selling in-person; a special form allows ticket-buyers to write their name, email address and phone number. Alice Pierce will send out our promotional letter in the Chamber’s September newsletter; it goes to an audience of 7,000 people!
The next board meeting will be on Zoom on Thursday, September 10, time yet to be determined. The next club meeting will be on Friday, September 4.
