The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Meeting recap of Friday, November 15, 2019
Ed Smith introduced three guests today – his son, Anthony Edward “Tig” Smith; Nancy’s friend, Delanie Rouleau, from Uniques and Antiques in the cove; and Alice Pearce, Executive Director of the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce, who also is a member of the Lincoln-Woodstock (NH) Rotary club.

President Emily was fined for not having a badge and Elizabeth Cutler covered her. John said one member already has accepted the invitation to the holiday luncheon at Jonathan's. Erin was happy to bring home all 37 Interact students from the NYC trip last Saturday. Nancy was happy that George was accepted to attend the District 7780 Cali, Colombia Project Fair. She also was happy that Ms. Rouleau was in attendance. Susan was happy that her mom is back at the retirement home after falling and receiving some stitches. Joe was happy to have received a unique prescription  from his doctor who directed him to “be happy for the rest of his life!”  Melanie offered up a scooter dollar. Ed Seppa was happy to tell the club about historical November 9 events – the 1965 NYC blackout, the 1989 take-down of the Berlin Wall, and his 1943 birth! Heath put in a happy five to celebrate his 5 vote margin in the Selectboard election. Kerry Ellen was happy about her trips to Ireland and Nashville. She especially enjoyed the visit to Churchill Downs in Louisville. Elizabeth Ford enjoys the positive energy of our club. Tracy happily reported a $1,000 donation to the kite festival by Rick Doliver.

Pete’s Clynk Ditty…

Our account is frozen at Eight-four ten!
that’s what they’re saying at CLYNK
So we need to thaw out, and you know just how…
And turn in more empties – don’t you think?

Ray Hamlin drew the King of Clubs and the 6 of Hearts. Better luck next time!

Nancy introduced Delanie Rouleau who showed us one of the interesting items available at the shop – an old ship’s model in a glass case circa mid 19th century.

Emily (see photo below) talked about the date change to December 16 of the Interact students visit to the Wells Rotary club. The Christmas by the Sea fire-pit lighting in Perkins Cove is at 5:30 on Friday, December 13, to be followed by the tree-lighting in town at 6:30 and smores back in the cove. She requests assistance with the fire-pit.

Emily announced a recent board decision in response late meals and dues payments. At the beginning of each quarter, meals/dues are expected to be paid with 30 days. At the 3rd meeting of the quarter, members will be reminded to pay. At the 4th meeting of the quarter, those who have not paid will be fined $10.

We presented Ruthie her gratuity today – she was visibly touched.

Emily passed around a sign-up sheet for the holiday luncheon on December 12. If you were not at the meeting, please RSVP to John or Connie. In addition, we’ll have a $15 Yankee Swap on December 20. Finally a second sign-up sheet was passed around for members to sign up to take responsibility for our various events and activities. Emily says, “Please volunteer or be voluntold!” Heath volunteered to arrange for the Perkins Cove Christmas tree.

Ed Smith announced a segment of recognition awards at the December 3 selectboard meeting. Kerry Ellen suggested getting together for dinner at Bintliff’s next Thursday since there is no meeting on Friday.
