The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Thursday, October 7, 2021
We were joined by three guests. Naomme Paris is a vice president of Biddeford Savings. Dr. Patrick Taylor is CEO and President of York Hospital. Paul Breen is a former member of Ogunquit Rotary.

To start the meeting, Susan reminded us of a valuable thought, “Service is the rent I pay for the room I occupy on this Earth.” Before his invocation, Richard requested a moment of silence in memory of Suzanne Ilsley, the late former president of the Wells Rotary Club.

Numerous happy and sad dollars were donated. Ed Smith remembered Suzanne Ilsley. Richard thanked members for the “great job” they do for the club. Brenda thanked Kerry Ellen, Elizabeth Cutler and Pete for their efforts in the initial stages of revising the club’s by-laws. Tracy thanked everyone who assisted with the Kite Festival. Melanie is pleased that good weather is in store for the season-closing of the Wells Big Daddy this weekend. Joanie is encouraged by the optimism being expressed by business customers at Bangor Bank. Two of Dr. Joe’s Norway family members, Tor and his wife, will visit next summer. Joe and Vickie will get their Covid booster shots tomorrow! Here’s yet another Clynk ditty from Pete…

When I hear the CLYNK  and CLANK
Of those empties in the bag
I know they’ll add more dollars
To what’s already in the bank!  (Now $785.05)

Dr. Taylor came to York Hospital from Catholic Health Services in Florida. Trained as an ER specialist, he learned the importance of “giving back” as an undergrad at Notre Dame. Following his medical studies at Duke, Dr. Taylor provided medical services in the Philippines. He sees York Hospital as “friends and family taking care of friends and family.”  He is determined that it will remain a strong independent facility. The hospital will have a greater focus on preventive medicine going forward.

In her closing remarks, Susan reported that the club has received the $4,000 district grant funds for the Canines for Clean Water project. The food drive continues through October; drop donations off at the Chamber or at the Wells-Ogunquit Senior Center. The board meets Wednesday at 4:00 on Zoom. Another beach cleanup takes place Saturday, October 16. Ogunquitfest at the Dorothea Grant Commons is on Saturday, October 23.
