The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Overview of Friday, April 16, 2021
The rain, snow and raw weather did not dampen members’ thoughts of Spring. Melanie noted that Big Daddy’s had a successful first day of the season yesterday when Tracy had her first ice cream of the season. Ed Smith spoke of being impressed by the scale of the outdoor venue being created at the Ogunquit Playhouse; a tent covering 25,000 square feet to accommodate 450 people. Bob has notified the Ogunquit Public Works Department that he is ready to take care of the planters in Rotary Park and at Ogunquit Beach.  Pete reported that the flags are up in readiness for Patriots Day festivities.

A visitor who was inspired by the club’s Patriots Day Challenge stopped by Tracy’s camera shop to drop off two flags to be retired by Elizabeth Ford and Pete and to become stars for troops.  Elizabeth Ford thanks Elizabeth Cutler for the Stars for Troops pictures on Facebook. Starmakers Elizabeth and Pete have created 1,660 stars to date. Clynk funds total $504.40! Susan is hoping to dip into the fund for lunch if we resume in-person meeting at the Chamber on July 2.

Due to time conflicts with her job, Nancy Lowenberg has resigned form Ogunquit Rotary. We are grateful for the good work Nancy did for the club, particularly in grant-writing, and we wish her well.

Susan sent an email, including sign up forms, to members regarding the April 24 beach cleanup.  The 2 Cents Sale committee will meet by Zoom at 4:30 on Tuesday, April 27. Elizabeth Ford learned from Eleanor Vadenais that Wells Rotary is planning a re-painting of the map of the United States on the grounds of Wells Elementary School. Melanie will ask Rick Coyne if Ogunquit Rotary can make it a joint project again.

Until next time, stay safe and be well,

Ed Seppa
