The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Thursday, March 21, 2024

Alice is on vacation visiting her son in Austria (I think) and Rick led our meeting. He gave thanks for a message delivered two weeks ago at Northeast President-Elect Training by Chris Singleton, former professional baseball player. Mr. Singleton is a nationally-renowned speaker with a message of resilience, forgiveness, and unity following the loss of his mother in the 2015 Mother Emanuel Church tragedy in Charleston, S.C. asserting that “love is stronger than hate.”

In happy/sad dollars, Richard was both happy to be back at Jonathan’s and sad that the Ogunquit Village School building is no more. Ray, Kerry and Tracy also spoke of being happy. Pete was happy to “have dinner for lunch.” (We enjoyed Jonathan’s delicious chicken piccata once again!) Ed Smith unequivocally noted that we will have snow this weekend. Tyler looks forward to an upcoming family vacation. Somewhat self-deprecatingly, Eric admitted that he showed up at the Ogunquit Fire Station a couple of days ago for the visioning session that we all will gather for this coming Wednesday! Jen was delighted to discover that she no longer needs to be concerned about gluten in her diet following a procedure to remove her gall bladder! Steve noted the #1 ranking of the UConn Huskies men’s team heading into the Big Dance. Go Huskies! Susan will be going to Cape Cod on a long weekend. George reported on his visit with his son, Paul, and family in Japan; he learned some interesting things and enjoyed a massage! Ed Smith told Tracy that the Knights of Columbus will not compete with our 2 Cents Sale this year, it’s 50th! Dr. Joe was happy that Vickie accompanied him to this meeting. Rick learned a lot at NE PETS. Pete cited $1184.52 in CLYNK funds and said,

“Big events are now happening like One, Two and Three,
There’s the Equinox then Easter and the Eclipse to see,
Oh, and one more just as important, for the list,
You guessed it – it’s CLYNK, that shouldn’t be missed!

Pete had the winning ticket but drew the King of clubs and the 3 of clubs.

Rick read a note from the Wells-Ogunquit Center at Moody thanking us for our Day of Warming efforts last month.

Ed Smith donated a German-language edition of Stephen King’s Carrie for the Foundation auction. Susan paid $10; she’ll give it to friend who knows the language! The second auction item was an Easter basket of Harbor Candy delights. George paid $22.

Hannah had arranged for a speaker on the subject of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards but that person had to cancel. So, Rick warmly introduced Hannah and promptly put her “in the hot seat” wherein members could ask questions of her. We learned that she studied drama at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts. Her favorite role on stage was that of Nancy in Oliver! She enjoys spending time with her 9-year-old sister, her boyfriend, and anything Disney. Among her favorite Broadway shows, the top three are WaitressLes Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. Last but not least, we learned that Hannah is keenly interested in helping with the production of the skit for the Changeover this summer!

Susan is organizing a social gathering at Front Yard (not to be confused with Front Porch or Backyard!) on Tuesday, May 7, at 4:00 p.m.
Our Visioning session takes place at 4:30 this coming Wednesday at Ogunquit Fire Station. Our next club meeting is Thursday, April 4. The board meets on Thursday, April 11. District 7780 Training Assembly is Saturday, April 20.

Respectfully,

Ed Seppa
