We had a large turnout on this beautiful day, including six guests. Littlefield family members Matthew Kearns and Brooklyn Young from South Dakota, and Michael Jones, Jyoti’s husband. We were pleased also to see Vickie Russell and Heath Ouellette. Last but not least was Jake Holmes, today’s speaker. In his invocation, Richard requested condolences for the Smith family on the passing of Ed’s brother.
Amanda, Susan, and Elizabeth Ford deposited good old happy dollars. Tracy’s headed to the Big E in Springfield, Mass. Heath’s happy-twenty celebrated his fourth time visiting with us. Nancy was happy to have discussed a potential project in Colombia with Brianna Castro. Joe’s happy-five recognized Vickie’s presence. Richard’s happy-twenty saluted the visit by his family. Ed Smith is very happy over his new rechargeable hearing aids. And Pete again entertained us with,
“Just being allowed to tell this crowd
about where our famous Clynk’s at,
we’re back up to speed, oh yes indeed;
our account is nothing to wink at!
$155.35.”
Pete then missed out on $57 in the 50/50 pot when he drew the king of spades and the queen of diamonds.
Bob announced that Heath submitted an application for membership in the club. It will be on the October board of directors meeting agenda.
You may recall that Jyoti Goodwin-Jones became a member of the club in a surprise announcement a while ago. Today, Bob presided over an official induction ceremony for Jyoti with Richard affixing her pin. (see photo) Bob reviewed the most recent board of directors meeting focusing on the $1,000 donated to eight organizations. He also encouraged members to attend the district conference on Saturday, October 5. We’ll be brainstorming ideas for speakers and for service projects on October 18.
Bob reviewed the upcoming calendar: Ogunquitfest on October 26 and the holiday luncheon at Jonathan’s, tentatively on December 12. Kerry reminded him of the Christmas By the Sea parade on December 14. Tracy asked us to think of ideas for decorating Rotary Park for Halloween.
Jyoti introduced Jake Holmes of the Maine Credit Union League who shared thoughts on identity theft. (see photo) After touching on several key areas like social media and credit cards, Jake led us in a special bingo game. Dr. Joe won by correctly identifying CD, beneficiary, PIN and identity theft. Jake called attention to his blog on mainecreditunions.org and he endorsed Password1 for storing passwords securely.
