We had three visitors: Don Kamman, today’s speaker; Maryna Shuliakouskaya, our District 7780 assistant governor; and Vickie Russell
Matt “auditioned” as sergeant at arms in Ed Smith’s absence. Erin is very excited about a new job she starts next week. Richard’s two grandsons from South Dakota will be visiting him. Melanie donated a scooter-dollar. Susan had three closings this week. Brenda happily reported surviving Paxslovid and noted that Erin will serve as registrar for the District 7780 Foundation Gala on November 4th. Tracy is excited about the kite festival. Ann Lee Hussey, our newest member, was happy with the company at her table. Maryna provided advance info on the September 8th District 7780 Recovery Conference as well as the September 17th Crutches 4 Africa event. George gave us a heads-up on a November 6th fundraiser for the Afghan family sponsored by the folks at Riverwoods. Vickie and Joe are the proud great-grandparents of a 7-week-old new arrival! Alice’s kids from Texas will be visiting in connection with a family event. I shared some news from Ed Smith. He is resting after a pacemaker implantation procedure last weekend. Ed expects to provide more details at the September 15 club meeting. We all wish him a speedy resumption of normal activity.
The world according to Pete… “There are piles of Clynk bags outside the kiosks, but they say they’re getting to it. So it’s ok to throw yours on top, go ahead… don’t wait…just do it!”
Pete held the winning ticket but drew the Ace and Queen of diamonds!
Alice auctioned off a 32-ounce Yeti mug for the Polio Foundation. The furious bidding ended with Matt’s $100 mic-drop!
Alice announced the start of a September-October food drive for the food pantry. Donations can be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce and the Wells-Ogunquit Center at Moody. Alice then introduced Don Kamman who volunteers at what is formally the St Mary’s Ecumenical Food Pantry.
The food pantry is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization affiliated with Good Shepherd Food Bank. Hannaford in Wells donates food via Feeding America to the pantry, but staffing shortages have resulted in a decrease in the amount of food donated. The pantry also buys produce at reduced prices from Spiller farm. The pantry supplies food to about 50 to 60 people on an ongoing basis. Currently there is a need for paper goods and toiletries (toothpaste, etc.) The pantry would welcome volunteers who can lift heavy boxes. Don Kamman is pictured below.
