The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Thursday, September 15, 2022
As Ed Smith and Julie were leaving to go to lunch three weeks ago, his phone rang. The caller (from the cardiologist’s office), said, “Please don’t waste time. Head straight to the emergency room. Don’t drive.” Because of shortness of breath, Ed had been wearing a heart monitor and the data showed his heart had been stopping for brief periods of 3 to 8 seconds. Happily, Ed was at lunch this week to tell us he now feels fine after having a pacemaker installed.

Elizabeth Ford shared her thoughts on the 4-Way Test. Susan again offered some good words of inspritation.

In other news, Kerry was able to visit with her sister after two years of separation due to Covid. Dr. Joe reported that the foundation chair of the Biddeford-Saco Rotary club complimented our club on our polio fund giving. Erin took delight in reporting on the wonderful kite festival despite the high tide, rough surf, and calm winds! (See image below.) Numerous members expressed happiness over Ed Smith’s good health outcome. Noting $238.90 in Clynk cash,  Pete used a kite theme to say,

“Colorful kites are everywhere,
Some are even in the air!
First we judge ‘em on the ground,
Before that kite string’s all unwound!
Everybody wins and gets a prize,
Then look up there…how well it flies!”

Pete held the winning ticket but missed out on $40, drawing the 3 of hearts and the 8 of clubs.

Heath collected $50 in another “polio auction.” The winners were Erin (shopping bag); Rick and Matt (Rotary ball caps); and Ann Lee (Perkins parking pass.)

In an interesting member-talk, Susan spoke of joining Rotary, her Italian family, six sisters, not enjoying college at first, acting classes, social work, switching to realty work, and her son and his family in Mongolia.

Heath reviewed some club business. Erin will email the 2022-23 budget for approval. The board will begin discussion on the best use of our savings account funds. Tracy will review the kite festival at the next meeting. Members signed up to assist with club-meeting duties. Heath will send an email to the club describing committee and event volunteer opportunities.

Respectfully,

Ed Seppa
